What was filed?
ABC7 Los Angeles reported that three new lawsuits filed against Six Flags Magic Mountain allege riders suffered major brain injuries after riding X2. ABC7 also reported that attorneys for the plaintiffs said more than 100 additional people have come forward.
The Mercury News reported that the Dordick law firm held a Sept. 22 press conference and identified Naomi Greer-Wilkinson, Pamela Guillen and Michael Wilk as plaintiffs in the X2 lawsuits. The same report said X2 closed July 12 after an incident involving the coaster that state safety officials are reviewing.
What do the reports say about the injuries?
ABC7 reported that Guillen said she became confused after exiting X2, later woke up in a hospital and learned she had emergency brain surgery. ABC7 reported that an attorney for Wilk said he has undergone two brain surgeries and is now unable to practice law because of a disability.
CNN reported that Greer-Wilkinson and Guillen both fell unconscious after riding X2 in July and underwent emergency brain surgery. CNN also reported it could not independently verify the claims of riders who recently came forward after its earlier investigation.
What remains disputed?
CNN reported that Six Flags declined to respond to the new allegations and said it does not comment on pending litigation. The Mercury News reported that Six Flags says its rides undergo inspections by state, insurance, engineering, safety and third-party inspectors. The same report said Six Flags and S&S Worldwide denied liability in an earlier Christopher Hawley settlement and that the settlement included no finding that X2 was defective or caused Hawley's death.
