What the reports say
MyNewsLA reported that the judge issued the approval order on Sept. 16. According to MyNewsLA, the boy was hurt at about 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 21, 2023, while stepping down at the end of a carousel ride at the Los Angeles Zoo.
MyNewsLA reported that the lawsuit alleged the ride stopped without warning, the child's foot became trapped under a surface, and he fell, suffering three breaks in one leg. Hoodline, citing the same court dispute, reported that the child received on-site medical care after the carousel incident. Hoodline identified the ride as the Tom Mankiewicz Conservation Carousel.
What the city disputed
MyNewsLA reported that the lawsuit, filed in February 2024, alleged the city was negligent in allowing a hazardous condition to exist. MyNewsLA also reported that the City Attorney's Office denied the boy's claims and argued in court papers that any damages resulted from the boy's own negligence.
Hoodline reported that city lawyers also raised statute-of-limitations and immunity defenses. Hoodline added that, because the injured party is a minor, the settlement required court approval before it could take effect.
