The Los Angeles Times reported that Danbom was heading north on Vermont Avenue when a city firetruck traveling west appeared in his path. The Times reported that his motorcycle went into the air and that Danbom suffered a dislocated shoulder and a leg injury that later required a below-the-knee amputation.
